11-Year-Old Girl Gives Her Life to Rescue Cousin During Tubing Accident

Florida Girl Sacrifices Life to Save Cousin in Tubing Accident
Summer fun turned into tragedy for a Florida family. Eleven-year-old Jordan Roe, known as the “protector” of her family, gave her life to save her 8-year-old cousin, Laila, during a tubing accident at Star Lake, which straddles the Putnam and Alachua County line.

The Accident
On Tuesday, June 24, Jordan, Laila, and 9-year-old Brylee were pulled behind a Sea-Doo jet ski during a family barbecue. Suddenly, the jet ski slammed into a dock, tossing all three children into the water. While Brylee walked away with minor bruises, Jordan tragically did not survive. Laila suffered life-threatening injuries and has undergone multiple surgeries.

“Jordan sacrificed her life, and she saved her cousin’s life with her life,” said her aunt, calling Jordan the protector of their family.

A Mother’s Heartbreak
Kristine Robinson, mother of Laila and Brylee, was in Tampa caring for her newborn in a NICU when she received the devastating news. She now urges other families to prioritize safety and cherish every moment with loved ones.

“Hold your babies tight. We all want to have fun with our kids, but please be careful,” Robinson told WJHG.

Jordan’s Legacy
Even in death, Jordan continues to inspire. Known for her love of animals and dream of becoming a veterinarian, she consistently helped others. Her family launched a GoFundMe in her honor, describing her as “a free spirit and compassionate,” always ready to care for those around her.

“Jordan died as she lived — protecting her family. Even in her passing, she gave the gift of life through organ donation, fulfilling her wish to bring hope and smiles to others,” Robinson said.

Tributes have poured in. Family friend Allison Hadley wrote, “The love, laughter, and joy you brought will echo in our hearts forever. You were a light in our lives, and that light will never fade.”

Community Response
Two fundraising campaigns have been set up — one for Jordan’s funeral, another to support Laila’s ongoing medical care. Donations continue to pour in from across the country.

Longtime Star Lake resident Steven Gabbard told First Coast News, “Star Lake is usually so peaceful. You don’t expect this kind of tragedy.”

A Lasting Reminder
Even in tragedy, Jordan’s bravery shines. Her final act of selflessness saves a life and leaves a legacy of courage and love. Her story touches everyone who hears it and will live on in the cousin she saved and countless others inspired by her heroism.
