Fans left in sh0ck over Melania’s ‘Trump dance’

Donald Trump has used the Village People’s song YMCA at his campaign rallies for years. His dance has become somewhat iconic, as he rocks his hips side to side and does his fist pumps up and down. Yet, it seems as if he’s not the only one doing it.

Donald Trump has done various things as president. However, if one wouldn’t remember him for his policies or work as the President of the United States, his dance moves sure won’t be forgotten. Trump’s dance went viral, sparking a trend in the sports world.

Many athletes emulated his dance moves in games or matches, with one notable example being San Francisco 49ers star Nick Bosa. Before the Super Bowl LIX in 2024, Donald Trump spoke to Fox about his dance moves. According to him, he never expected his dance moves to go viral at all.

“We do these rallies. They’ve always been great, but they got really great, and I don’t [know] what it is,” Donald Trump said. “I try and walk off sometimes without dancing and I can’t. I have to dance because it’s just, it just got something special about it.”

The fact that Donald Trump is using the YMCA for his rallies has not just been met with positive responses but with criticism. The Village People group has responded many times to the fact that Trump has used their song over the years. In 2020, the band wrote on Facebook, “Our music is all-inclusive and certainly everyone is entitled to do the ‘YMCA. dance, regardless of their political affiliation,” adding that they’d “prefer our music be kept out of politics.”

Though MAGA supporters may have enjoyed, and are still enjoying, the president’s dancing, his political friends have tried copying it with mixed results.

What Melania Trump think of Donald’s dancing

For instance, one time, Kristi Noem, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and former Governor of South Dakota, attempted to mimic Donald’s dance. One Twitter user wrote it was one of the “strangest” clips yet from a Trump rally.

Another user wrote, “The cringeworthy moment my Gov @GovKristiNoem realizes she won’t be moderating questions for Trump from the audience but rather be forced to dance around for 40 minutes with her failed leader. Sheesh, that’s harsh reality there. Hard not to chuckle.”

Donald Trump loves his dancing, and his wife, Melania Trump, has been seen watching his husband rocking his moves on stage. So what does she really think of her husband’s dance? In an interview in December last year with Fox, Melania said of Donald’s dance that it looks “happy and loose.”

“I’m sure you’ve seen that evolve… as you look right there, how do you describe your husband’s dance moves?” host Steve Doocy asked, pulling up a clip from one of Donald Trump’s danceoffs.

Melania responded that it was a “special and unique” dance, adding that “People are copying it and everybody have fun with it.” She didn’t answer whether she had given her husband dance tips, but revealed he” came up with it on his own.”

Melania Trump doing the “Donald Dance” sparks reactions
So had she tried the dance herself? No, according to Melania. Nevertheless, that has changed as the US celebrated its 249th Independence Day.

Donald Trump and Melania Trump appeared on the balcony of the White House, where the president was seen doing the “Trump Dance”, punching the air while swaying his hips.

However, he wouldn’t be the only one dancing. A bit into the dance routine, Melania Trump suddenly waved her open hands palms up and down, bouncing on her feet. Fans quickly noticed how the First Lady of the United States began dancing, but opinions differed on whether it was a good move.

Melania dancing with Trump shows what real leadership looks like: joyful, authentic, and connected to the people. This is America at its best. Happy 4th!” one user wrote on X.

“The Trumps know how to party,” another added, while a third stated, “Melania is the best FLOTUS America has ever had.”

“Melania didn’t sign up for romance,” one social media user claims
However, not everyone agreed that the dancing was a positive thing. Another user in the same thread wrote, “Of course Melania’s out there mimicking Trump’s goofy little air-punch dance—because every second of their public life is scripted for show. The fireworks, the fake smiles, the swaying hips—it’s all theater for the cameras.”

The user added, “But let’s not get it twisted: this is a contractual marriage. There’s no love here, just obligation, image management, and financial strategy. Every photo op is a transaction. Trust and believe, Melania didn’t sign up for romance—she signed up for control, conditions, and a calculated exit plan.”
