The grandmother of the man accused of killing Charlie Kirk has spoken out, insisting the FBI arrested the wrong person

Grandmother Speaks Out
The grandmother of Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin insists the FBI “has the wrong man.” Debbie Robinson, 60, broke her silence after authorities arrested her grandson, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, in connection with the killing.

Shooting at Utah Valley University
On September 10, right-wing activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while attending an event at Utah Valley University. Investigators believe a lone gunman fired a single round from a rooftop on campus. A nationwide manhunt quickly followed, and within two days, the FBI named Tyler Robinson as their prime suspect.

FBI Announces Arrest
On September 12, the FBI confirmed Robinson’s arrest in southern Utah. Authorities say a family member’s tip led them to him. If convicted, Robinson could face the death penalty. Officials have not released a possible motive.

Grandmother Rejects Accusations
Debbie Robinson, speaking to the Daily Mail, described her grandson as a quiet, studious man who avoided politics, despite his family’s strong Republican ties.
“Tyler is the shyest person,” she said. “He has never spoken about politics to me at all.”

She insisted Robinson could not have been involved, calling it a case of mistaken identity. “There’s just no way he could have been that good of a shot,” she argued. “He’s never hunted, never owned a gun, and I don’t think he’s ever even fired one.”

Family in Shock
Debbie admitted she has not spoken to her son, Tyler’s father, since the arrest. She stressed that her grandson had “never been in trouble” and described him as a “wonderful child” and “a very shy, good kid.”

“There is no way he could be violent,” she said. “There’s absolutely no way.”

Conflicting Accounts
Despite her defense, Utah Governor Spencer Cox suggested Robinson had grown “more political” in the months leading up to the shooting and had expressed opposition to Kirk’s views.

Even so, Debbie emphasized her sympathy for Kirk’s wife and children, saying she was “very sad” for the family.
